News: US and Asian chip manufacturers have warned that if Washington authorities delay passing the $52 billion CHIPS for America Act, they will have to delay or reduce US investment plans.

On July 5th, Nikkei Asia Review reported that Intel has indefinitely delayed Ohio's $20 billion chip factory and attributed the delay to the chip bill. This factory building was originally scheduled to hold a groundbreaking ceremony on July 22nd. Intel told the Nikkei that the company still plans to build a factory in Ohio, but "the progress of the chip bill is slower than originally expected and it is unclear when it will be finalized."

Intel's partner, Gerson, also mentioned that the fate of the chip bill will affect the company's rate and speed of expanding US production capacity. Gexin plans to invest $1 billion to build a chip factory in upstate New York. TSMC has started building a $12 billion 5-nanometer factory in Arizona, but also stated that the speed of construction depends on subsidies from the US government.

Supporters hope that the United States Congress can pass the revised version in July. If there are no results before the August recess, there may be more obstacles to face in the future. Shivakumar pointed out that the midterm election season will enter after July, and once the election is involved, the difficulty of passing the bill will be higher.
